Fun Time with Windows Blue Screen of Death

// January 10th, 2008 // Uncategorized

Getting a Windows Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) is not a fun problem to troubleshoot, but making them show up on a perfectly fine computer is hilarious fun to the geeks in the know. A simple registry hack + a simple keystroke and  **CRASH** there goes Windows.

    I keep quite a few wallpapers at http://picasaweb.google.com/UncleBic/WallpapersFromVariousOS for just such a gag. Feel free to add to the confusion with these. I had the lead tech at a software company log on to a server remotely to assist with the install of a $20k program, and when he saw the Win95b desktop, the sound of “What the…” through the phone was priceless. This is right up there with the screen shot as desktop joke. You use the hide the toolbar option for Windows and then make a screen shot of the desktop, then replace the desktop wallpaper with the screen shot picture you’ve just taken, now hide the desktop icons. You’ll have someone really scratching their head wondering why the icons won’t work. Don’t make the boss wait too long for tech support to show up.
